New Season of “Law Syrup” Podcast

For Law Syrup’s third season, the CFCJ is proud to partner with the Ontario Justice Education Network (OJEN) for a deep dive into access to justice. Featuring judges, lawyers, academics, researchers, funders, and other changemakers from across Canada, this season explores the challenges, opportunities, and big ideas shaping the future of our justice system. Join us as we hear from those working to make justice more accessible, effective, and people-centred for everyone.
For the season premiere episode, CFCJ Director Jean-Paul Bevilacqua and lawyer and Law Syrup host Herman Wong sit down with Harvey Brownstone: Canada’s first openly gay judge, memoirist, interviewer, and trailblazer. Harvey reflects on his journey from rejection and hardship to the bench, discusses why he believes Canada’s justice system needs reform, and shares how his life story is being adapted into a feature film. Along the way, he offers powerful advice for anyone facing barriers because of who they are or where they come from.
